Te Wera secret buddy mission...

At Frankley School the year fives and sixes have a school camp. They go to Te Wera campsite or Konini lodge. Recently room eleven went to Te Wera camp. Te Wera is past Stratford. There were lots of different activities. These are some of the activities: making eeling lines, bivouac, stretcher challenge, night line, spotlight and kayaking.

When we go there, Mrs McAllister called us into the lounge. She gave us each a piece of paper with our name on and another persons name on. The other persons name was the person you had to watch out for, think of the good things, achievements and their behavior on camp.

My secret buddy tried really hard in archery and everything else. He also was a little afraid to do the seal entry but then toughened up and did it; that was one of his achievements. He was nice he was funny and a little annoying to some people. Overall out of ten I think he got and eight out of ten.

Nightline by Jacob

It was night! A night on the nightline, but in this story nightline turns into nightmare! When on the nightmare we get attacked by a small creature with black and yellow stripes. They can sting as many times as they want and they work in a swarm. “Muh, ha, ha, ha, he, he!”

I watched as the sun came down and day turned to night. I was brave, brave enough to go on the nightline. I got ready, I was going to do this. 1, 2, 3! I started the nightline but I had a bad feeling. I kept it to myself. Later on I thought “Nah, nothing’s going to happen or will it?”

I ate boysenberries even though they might be poison berries or sour. Here comes the rope. I gripped onto the rope not letting go as the hill was steep. There was a cliff beside it. Some people didn’t hold onto the rope because they didn’t think they needed it but then they slipped over. We were near the end of the track then. “Ow!” I felt pain by my waist. “What was that?” We kept on walking still wondering why my waist hurt. I decided it was a prickle. I put my hand down by my pants. Then, “Ow, my middle finger hurts”. “What’s going on?” Then I realised this was a wasp attack!

Oh no, one stung. When you get stung it sends out a smell, a smell that attracts more wasps. This is going to hurt, it will hurt for other people too. “Ow!” My foot. Heaps of other people were saying the same thing and if you’re not listening, just in case. “Ow!” ZZZap! “Ow!” My nose! Wait my nose! That’s close to my eye. “Get it off, get it off!” I started screaming. “Get it off, get it off!” There was a gentleman behind me that thought, right, that’s enough! He started pulling the wasp off my nose but it was trying to hold on. It was saying “Leave me alone you beast, stinging people is my duty!” “You!” PLUCK! The wasp came off, then SPLAT, squashed to juice.

Then, still screaming because there was still one on my foot. It’s going to sting me, it’s going to crash. The gentleman crushed it. It was still alive so I kicked it away. WHOOSH – it was flying and straight into an ants nest. “Kill him” screamed the King of the Ants. “Wait, wait, this is a mistake!” said the wasp. “I’m an ant with a costume on”. Too late, the ants had already eaten him alive!

Anyway, I got rushed out of the bush and into the area where people went when they got hurt. Freezing cold ice packs on me. I was suffering from pain. I had spray on. I was in my bed, I was having nightmares then Ow! My legs hurt. I went to see what it was. Then ZZZap a hundred wasps came out from my pants. AAAAARGGGH!! Then I woke up. And since I was having nightmares, I was sleeping with Mum and I fell asleep quickly. When I woke up I didn’t think "breakfast", I thought "that was no Nightline that was a Nightmare!".

Spotlight - written by Abby - put on the blog by Mrs McA!

Spotlight
“Are we going the right way” I ask, “saying isn’t this the wasp way?”

"No, it’s not,” says Rusty for the 15,000th time “it’s the same way as we came
up”.

We saw the spotlight people shining their lights trying to find the
kids. Gregor starts pretending to be a gorilla. Everybody including me are
making more noises.

“Ahh”!! I said in a frightened way. "Don’t do that," I
said to Rusty. I was at the back of the line and so was rusty. He frightened
me. We finally got to the bottom.

“Wait at the stairs please” saying Miss Keenan in her Irish accent. We looked at each other.
“Ehh” we said. We kept running. Let's start.

We went the wrong way instead of going over the
gate. Isla, Shikain, Isaac, Evette and I climbed up a little hill and over
an electric fence (but don’t worry it wasn’t on). We carried on.

Bridget
(Jacob fletcher’s mum) said to another adult “I don’t think they were
allowed to go that way” I heard them but I didn’t say anything. I started
to play the game. I was crawling along the ground like a lion spying on an
elephant and about to pounce on it.

“Down!!” I say to myself as Mrs McA shined the light on me. I finally caught up with someone… hunter and
patch. They were going to stay there but they decided not to.

“Eww,” Hunter said. “I just put my arm on sheep poo”.

“Down” we say to each other,

“oh poo” Evette said. “I’ve been spotted”.

I hear Mrs McA say to Evette “is that EVETTE”. Ouches! I put my hand on a bunch of prickles.

“We’re nearly at the top” patch said. I repeated. We got up to the steep, steep bit of
the hill. Is this the top have we made it or do we walk to Mrs McA? She
shouted out just come to me now since you’ve made it to the top. Just come
to me now and wait here quietly. We meet Kieran, Billie k and someone
else. I can’t remember who it was but we made it to the top without being
spotted. We sit down. It was about quarter to ten by then. Some other kids
came up after we finished. I ran down the hill like a cheetah chasing its
predator. This time I went out the right way. That was fun I was saying to
myself. We get back.

There was a movie on for the people who didn’t play
spotlight. The movie was ratatouille there was drink and bikkies for
supper as usual. We watched it for a few minutes.

“Bed time” says Mrs McA, we paused the movie and then she stopped it after we left. We all went to
bed. Oh mummy’s not here to give me my goodnight hug so I say goodnight to
mum and dad in my head and then I say goodnight to my roommates and say to
them “that was a fun night!”

Billie K - Seal Entry

I sat down. "I'm ready," I said with excitement. Then Mrs McA let go and I plunged into the water. I did't get wet or fall in. And I DID it! and I was relieved. I did it again and again.

Each time I held on tight to the paddle, tight against my chest. Suddenly I slowly started moving.
"Are you ready?" said Mrs McA.

"Yes," I replied. My paddle brushed against the bushes and then SPLASH!. Water flowed into my kayak.

MY BLOODY ANKLE!!! ( A BIG story!!!) Gregor

MY BLOODY ANKLE!!!
“I’m just walking around minding my own business when a ten ton alligator comes out of space!!!!!!”
“That never happened”
Yeah huh!”
Nuh uh!”
 “Yeah huh!!”
NUH UH!!!”
“Fine! You got me."

I bent down by the river admiring the water then I felt uncomfortable in my shoe so I took it off and found a pebble in it.

Then all of a sudden an eel sprang out of the water biting me and thrashing around.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!” I screamed out in pain, I kicked the eel back into the water. I watched it slithering back into the river. Here comes the hour walk back to camp with Mrs Mca (the longest hour of my life UGH!!)

Seal Entry - Connor

 entry
‘My face look’s worried as Mrs McA is hanging my kayak over the edge of the slimy goo’. I shoot down the goo as fast as a car splash as I hit the water yay that was fun. Seal entry two. This time my face looks not as worried woo as I almost slip down the grassy hill. Wow I zoom down the grassy waterslide as fast as a rocket ship that was fun.

Archery - Natalia

I picked up the bow, then the arrow. I put the arrow against the bow, brushing it over the toothbrush bristles. Then, clipping the end of the arrow to the string. I pulled back slowly and ..... THWANG!!!

"Oooohhhhhhhhhh, I had missed the target!

The Water Slide - Isla

I waited until it was my turn. Then suddenly there was no one in front of me. So as fast as I could I ran and dived onto the water slide.

Then I was on the water slide. I went super super fast in my penguin slide.

When I was at the end of the slide, 'SPLASH!' I went into the green disgusting pooey water!

Then I ran back up to the top of the hill to have another go. I tried to beat Jacob bet he bet me up the hill. Then I waited again until it was my turn again.

Spotlight

"Ok, remember  we have to stick together," said William to me and Janelle.

A s we were climbing up we could hear the wind howl and the spotlight was shimmering into my eyes.

"Duck," I whispered softly to William and Janelle.  All of - a –

sudden William drifted away into the darkness,  Janelle and I were all alone.  “William, “William, “William? I whispered looking around. It was pitch black, you could only see spotlight and shadows of people, crawling up the hill, “Duck” I whispered.

So we sat there for a while waiting for the spotlight to stop shining on Janelle and I.

 “Ow’’! I shouted.

”What”? whispered Janelle,
“I got stung by a wasp," I panicked.

“I will get some help” said Janelle.

We went down the hill and went to bed.

Spot light By William

Spot light

When I looked up it was plane black no stars, just the moon with its beam of light coming down. I looked up to the top of the hill. The light of the torch was beaming down like the moon. I hear a go but in a small voice. I start to run up with friends. I see them once I kept on going then I looked back.
I passed. All I saw was Darkness I looked forward then kept on going. Suddenly I fell backwards and started to roll backwards down the hill. BAM!  I landed in a prickle looked up the beam of the torch was coming towards me. I stayed still, but still in the prickle bush I was only felling pain. When the beam was gone I sat down next to the prickle bush, and pick of all the prickles attached to my skin. Then made my way back up the hill I was starting to slip in the wet grass. I was close to bush. I the little patch of bush we were told not to go in.

I see the teacher I crawl slowly up then she says “whoever that is made it to the top” “yes” I think in my head I look up I’m the first one up the only one but I can still feel the prickles in my leg.
I wait for more then Up pops Then when the last person in up, we all Go down BAM! I slip but there’s much more slips to come…

Zoe archery

Pure awesomeness
I exhaled slowly and pulled my hand back as far as it would go, and released. Bang! The balloon had popped and my arrow, firmly wedged in the polystyrene target, wobbled slightly.
The others started bubbling, saying stuff like “Zoe got it!” And “She hit the balloon!” I happily walked forward and pulled my arrow out of the target.
I walked back and reloaded. Bang! I had popped yet another balloon! I collected my arrow, got another balloon, secured it to the target and reloaded.
I concentrated hard and, all in split second, my fingers lost contact with the arrow and I heard that wonderful noise. Bang! I had hit my third balloon! This time when I had retrieved my arrow I danced back to my spot.
My next shot, paper! I was so surprised! I mean four prizes in a row people! That is how it is done!!!!!
